KARACHI, Jan 1: The academic session at the Karachi University began on Wednesday.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Zafar Saeed Saifi, said that commencement day was marked at which the deans of the faculties welcomed the new entrants and a guideline was issued to the students regrading their studies and conduct, as the institution was very particular about that.

Prof Saifi said that about 16,000 students got enrolled for the morning and evening programmes of the university.

He said that the last date for the new students to deposit their fee was January 2.

NEW DEAN: Prof Dr Altaf Hussain, an environmental scientist, has assumed the charge of the Dean of the university’s faculty of science on Wednesday.

He was elevated to the office after the retirement of Prof Dr Raunaq Raza, a senior official said.

Orientation Programme: The department of Islamic Learning, faculty of Islamic Studies, held an orientation programme on Wednesday.

The chairperson of the department introduced the syllabi and other co-curricular activities of the next academic year.

The dean of the faculty, Prof Abdul Rashid, also attended the programme and advised the students to get prepared for the challenges of the time.

NOMINATED: The chairman, Higher Education Commission, on Wednesday nominated Prof G A Miana as the member of the Karachi University syndicate.

He will hold the office for three years from the date of the first meeting of the syndicate.—APP/PPI
