PESHAWAR, Sept 20: Like residents of the country’s other parts, Peshawarites will also suspend daily routine today (Friday) to protest production of an anti-Islam in the US.

In the day, the government, semi-government and private offices will remain closed, while transporters, traders and owners of CNG stations, too, will go on a strike.

Rallies will also be taken out against the sacrilegious film in the city, especially outside the US consulate.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transport Owners Association Zahir Shah told reporters at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday that there would be complete wheel jam strike in the capital city.

“We’ll pull transport vehicles off the roads across the province, including Peshawar city. There’ll be no transport on the roads,” he said.

Mr Shah said the strike was meant to show the US and western world that Muslims in Pakistan were hurt by the production of the sacrilegious film and were ready to render all kinds of sacrifices to protect the honour of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and the Holy Quran.

He said he would lead a rally of transporters from the city’s main bus terminal on GT Road to the US consulate, where a demonstration would be staged.

All Pakistan CNG Association chairman Ghiyas Paracha has already announced that CNG stations across the country would remain closed on Friday.

Grand Trader Alliance president Khalid Ayub told reporters that traders would shut down their businesses in the day and take out a rally from Tehkal Payan on University Road to the US consulate after Friday prayers.

He said doctors, engineers and civil society activists would also participate in the rally.

Markazi Tanzeem Tajraan Cantonment Peshawar president Sharafat Ali said traders of the cantonment areas would march from Suneri Masjid to the US consulate after Friday prayers to protest the making of the blasphemous film.

Peshawar Traders Alliance president Mohammad Afzal said markets across the city would remain closed today (Friday).

“There will no business and commercial activity in the city on Friday,” he said.
