LAHORE, Dec 27: Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi ordered on Friday provision of adequate security at all churches and implementation of a security plan made to improve law and order situation in the province.

He issued the directions during a hurriedly called meeting on law and order which was attended by provincial home secretary, IGP and additional IG (special branch).

He ordered DIGs to personally monitor progress of the security plan and submit daily reports to him.

He declared the attack on a Daska church a conspiracy against Muslim-Christian unity and an attempt to generate a sense of insecurity among the people of Pakistan.

He said the government would effectively counter all such attempts.

Meanwhile, during a meeting with representatives of traders’ organizations here, the chief minister assured that basic changes would be brought about in the taxation system in consultation with them. Their complaints regarding sales tax would also be conveyed to the federal government for their immediate redressal.

He said the government would give priority to their opinion and suggestions while formulating economic policies.

Mr Elahi promised that their demand to shift Lahore’s Akbari Mandi to a suitable place and provision of proper parking lots at Shah Alam Market and Brandreth Road would be met.

He said the government would consult elected representatives for introducing an acceptable law regarding the permission of meals at wedding ceremonies.

Earlier, Mr Elahi met Palestinian Ambassador Ahmad Razza El-Salman who called on him at the Chief Minister’s House.
