ISLAMABAD, Dec 27: The government is committed to eradicate poverty and unemployment from the country.
This was stated by the federal minister for education, Zubaida Jalal, wile talking to this agency here on Friday.
The minister said development funds, which were announced by the prime minister, would be utilized for the betterment of common man.
Ms Zubaida urged political leaders to play their due role for promotion of democracy in the country. Opposition parties should also be involved in promoting democracy, she added.
She said the government had given top priority to the education sector. The minister said education ministry had started practical work for implementation of educational reforms to increase the literacy rate and promote quality education.
“I will visit rural areas to assess the educational needs.”
She said the government had initiated several projects in Balochistan, which would help in reducing poverty and unemployment.
Meanwhile, a delegation of employees from Gawadar Fish Harbour met the federal education minister here on Friday.
The delegation was led by the Nazim Union Council (Central), Gawadar, Rafiq Baloch.
During the meeting, Rafiq Baloch apprised the minister about miserable working conditions of employees hired on daily wages at the harbour.
He said the employees had submitted several requests for permanent employment to previous governments but no action had been taken to solve their problems.
“Since, the government is giving special attention for the development of Gawadar Deep Sea Port, the employees expect a favourable consideration regarding this issue,” he said.
The minister assured that the government would take notice of the situation.
Ms Zubaida said she would visit Gawadar in the first week of January to review the problems faced by the local residents.—APP
