KARACHI, Sept 11: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Tuesday directed officials of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to remodel the Korangi crossing intersection immediately and complete the construction of the Korangi Causeway, and a nearby culvert.
He issued these directives during a detailed visit to the uplift projects in Landhi and Korangi. He was accompanied by KMC administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed, Karachi Commissioner Roshan Shaikh, KWSB managing director Misbahuddin Farid and other officers.
The governor also gave instructions for the immediate completion of the Korangi Causeway extension project being built at an estimated cost of Rs148million. He said the Korangi crossing intersection should be reconstructed with new designing for the convenience of the area people.
He directed that the making of the Korangi Causeway as a three-track road must be completed on time with the installation of streetlights to help reduce the number of traffic accidents at night, especially during rains.
Director-general of Technical Services Altaf G. Memon, briefing the governor, said the construction and rehabilitation work of the Korangi Causeway would be completed within the next two months. He said reflectors had been installed on the barriers on the causeway.
On his visit to Korangi crossing, KMC administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed told the governor that the intersection, used by thousands of vehicles daily, and its construction on a new design would cost Rs20million. He said the Korangi crossing intersection would be made signal free to ensure hurdle-free flow of traffic. Floodlights and streetlights would be installed on the Korangi Causeway and Korangi crossing intersection, he added.
Mr Ibad also visited the Pakistan Tannery Association office and ordered the completion of the under-construction roads in the Tannery Zone with a better drainage system.
He said the KMC and KWSB should adopt a joint strategy so that development works in the area could be carried out in a better way. He said the leather industry was an important industry of Pakistan and, therefore, its problems must be solved on a priority basis. He directed Mr Farid to ensure continuous supply of water to the zone.
During the visit, the governor was informed that the construction of 5000 Road had been completed by the KMC and now an immediate operation was needed for the removal of encroachments established along it.
The governor also visited the culvert being built near the College of Business Management at cost of Rs18 million and directed the officials to complete the other side of the culvert at the earliest.
