LAHORE, Dec 26: An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Thursday disqualified a candidate for NA-163 bypolls for producing fake educational certificates.
A representative of BISE concerned confirmed to the tribunal that both the matriculation and FA certificates produced by Malik Iqbal Langrial, a nominee of the National Alliance, before the returning officer concerned were fake and should not be considered as genuine.
Ghulam Sarwar and Saeed Ahmad had challenged the candidature of Langrial on the grounds that he possessed bogus degrees and had been cleared by the returning officer concerned without due confirmation.
The seat was vacated by Millat Party and NA leader Sardar Farooq Ahmad Leghari.
CLEARED: The same tribunal cleared two candidates — Rashid Akbar Niwani, Saeed Akhtar Niwani — for contesting NA-74 and PP-47 bypolls, respectively.
Their candidature had been challenged on grounds that the graduation degree awarded to them by Jamiatul Muntazir were fake. The representative of Jamiatul Muntazir appeared before the tribunal and disclosed that the record of the institution had been damaged as a result of a fire and the allegation could not be confirmed in the current circumstances.
PETITIONS: The byelection petitions filed by PPP leader Khalid Kharal against former provincial education minister Riaz Fatiyana (NA-94), Muhammad Akhtar Ghuman against Nazir Ahmad Jutt (NA-167), Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal against Mushtaq Ahmad Kiyani (PP-05), and Mian Noor Muhammad Chela against Faisal Hayat Chabwana (PP-82) would be taken up on Jan 7 by the election tribunal.
