Tehran offers help to curb smuggling

ISLAMABAD, Dec 26: Iran and Pakistan will work jointly to control drug and human trafficking in their bordering areas, sources from the interior ministry told Dawn on Thursday.

The sources said Iran had offered to cooperate with Pakistani civil armed forces deployed on the Balochistan border to curb smuggling.

The Iranian civil armed forces would be visiting Pakistan to discuss modalitlities soon.

Both sides pledged cooperation in a recently-held meeting, attended by interior minister Faisal Saleh Hayat and an Iranian delegation, led by deputy interior minister of Iran Ali Asghar Ahmedian.

The delegation requested the interior minister to take foolproof measures to control drug and human trafficking taking place through the Pakistan’s bordering areas.
