KARACHI, Dec 24: Monday’s rains brought no relief for residents of the localities hooked to the Hub Dam source as water level in the dam’s reservoir remained unchanged.
“Despite the fact that the dam’s vast catchment area - starting from Khuzdar to Kirthar - remained heavily overcast on Monday and even on Tuesday, it went dry on both the days and the level of water in the reservoir of the dam did not increase,” an official of the city government’s water and sanitation department told Dawn on Tuesday.
As far as the Hub Dam is concerned, it did receive some rains on Monday but it made no difference in its water level, which continued to remain at 276.55RL (reservoir level) as was the case prior to the rains, he added.
Water supply from the Hub Dam to the sprawling townships of Orangi, Baldia, Surjani, North Karachi, Shershah and parts of the Site industrial area, had stopped in Oct this year after the dam’s reservoir had touched its dead storage capacity level of 276RL.
The water level in the reservoir had increased in Aug 2002 by one foot when its catchment area had received rains.
