NAWABSHAH, Dec 23: A meeting of the Small Growers Welfare Association was held here on Sunday to protest against transfer of the Sugarcane Commissioner of Sindh.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of the association said that the Sindh Cane Commissioner had been transferred for taking action against sugar mills.

He said that the decision, taken during a meeting between the All Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, sugarcane growers and federal minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi was not implemented.

He said that sugarcane growers were facing serious financial crisis because of inordinate delay in the start of the sugarcane crushing season.

The meeting demanded of the government to pressure sugar mills to purchase sugarcane at the rate of Rs50 per 40kg, besides paying quality premium according to the rules.
