Protest continues in Punjab

FAISALABAD, Oct 9: Protests continued for the second successive day on Tuesday all over the Punjab to condemn the US attack on Afghanistan.

A rally was taken out here which culminated at the Clock Tower intersection. Religious leaders Sahibzada Tariq Mahmood, Mufti Ziaul Haq and Zahid Qasmi led the procession.

Speakers criticized the US and its allies and said it wanted to establish its hegemony in the region. They expressed their complete support to the Taliban government and vowed to launch Jihad against America.

They also condemned the government for detaining Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Azam Tariq and leaders of other religious parties.

Former PML MNA Mian Abdul Mannan also addressed the rally and assured his party’s full support to the Taliban.

Meanwhile, all the shops and commercial centres remained open during the rally. However, the local administration had taken tough security measures.

SIALKOT: Protest demonstrations were reported from the Sialkot city, cantonment, Daska, Bhopalwala, Sambrial, Ugoki, Pasrur, Chawinda, Badiana, Shakargarh, Zafarwal, Baddomalhi and Narowal.

Participants of the rallies raised anti-America slogans and burnt effigy of the US president.

A strong police contingent remained on high alert till the end of rallies.

Meanwhile, the District Bar Association, Sialkot, also took out a protest rally from district courts to the Allama Iqbal chowk demanding immediate stoppage of the US-led attack.

GUJRANWALA: Religious parties, Jihadi and student organizations condemned the killing of innocent people in attack on Afghanistan.

Leaders of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, the Jamiat Ulema Ahl-i-Sunnat, the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, the Jamaat-i-Islami and other organizations said the US and Jews were conspiring against Islam.

OKARA: Activists of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, the Jamaat-i-Islami, the Jamiat Ahl-i-Hadith, and the People’s and the Muslim students federations took out a big protest rally here.

The rally was taken out from the Gole Chowk mosque under the leadership of Maulana Ghulam Mahmood Anwar, Haji Ihsanul Haq, Shaikh Muhammad Farooq, MSF leader Imran Younis, PSF’s Shahid Salim Noonari and others.

SAHIWAL: Two protest processions were taken out here on Tuesday to condemn the US attack on Afghanistan.

Students from the local colleges took out a rally at around 9am. The other protest procession was taken out by the religious parties and both the processions merged into one at Jogi Chowk. The processionists marched through different bazaars asking shopkeepers to close down their shops. A shopkeeper resisted the bid at Kariana Bazaar on which the protesters broke the door and windowpanes of his shop.

The protesters also set fire to tyres and blocked traffic, tore down film boards and banners and gathered at the Jinnah Chowk raising slogans against the US and the government.

Addressing the participants, the speakers condemned the US attack and held the America responsible for the unrest at the global level. Later, they dispersed peacefully.

OTHER CITIES: Protest processions were taken out in Sargodha, Sheikhupura and Toba Tek Singh.
