LAHORE, Dec 21: Police on Saturday registered a case against physician Dr Ahmad Javed Khwaja and his five family members, including those who were set free on Friday, for attacking police and possessing illegal arms.
Police produced the 65-year old physician and his brother Naveed before a judicial magistrate and obtained their remand.
Others named in the FIR include his brother Dr Nadeem, his two nephews Hasan and Ali, and a guest Farooq Mir.
Police, however, did not arrest the other four accused.
Dr Ahmad Javed Khwaja and his eight family members, including his two sons, as many brothers, three nephews and a guest, were taken into custody in a raid on their residence in Manawan on Thursday night, allegedly by the FBI and local intelligence agencies.
When contacted, a senior police official said the four accused named in the FIR were released on the Punjab chief minister’s order on Friday. “We have no idea whether they would be re-arrested after registration of a case against them.”
Earlier, police said they had released those who were found innocent during the investigation.
Imtiaz Khwaja, a relative of the physician told Dawn that the other three other family members, Usman, Dr Omar and Dr Khizar, who were also taken into custody during the operation were still missing.
The senior police officials, however, denied having arrested them.
