GUJRANWALA, Aug 4: Three people were killed and nine others sustained injuries when roofs of dilapidated houses and a factory collapsed during rain in and around the city on Saturday.

Reports said Kashif, 25, of Dhulley area was killed and his brother, Azam, and worker Qasim suffered injuries when the roof of a factory caved in. The factory is owned by Mumtaz.

Two family members, Younas and Iqbal, were killed while four others received injuries when the roof of their house collapsed in Naukher Town on Hafizabad Road.

Muhammad Ayub, 45, and his two minor children Farrukh and Haider Ali were injured when the roof of their house collapsed on them in Farid Town. Rescue-1122 personnel admitted the injured to the local DHQ Hospital where the condition of Azam and Qasim was stated to be serious.

Meanwhile, Wasa Managing Director Khalid Bashir visited various parts of the city and got the rainwater pumped from bazaars and streets under his supervision.

SIALKOT: The heavy rain badly affected the communication and electricity systems, suspending the power supply for several hours in urban and rural areas of Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils on Saturday. All low-lying areas in the Sialkot region were awash with rainwater. Government Murray College was no exception.

Railway tracks between Sialkot to Sambrial-Wazirabad and Sialkot-Pasrur to Narowal also remained submerged which badly affected the schedule of few trains.

Standing seasonal crops on hundreds of acres in 11 Bajwat villages were badly affected due to flood in River Tavi following torrential rain.

In 17 villages of Pasrur, the crops on hundreds of acres were also affected when water splashed over the banks of Nullah Dek.
