KARACHI, Dec 20: Over 3,000 teachers of more than 100 colleges in the city, on the appeal of Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA), on Friday observed complete strike, held protest meetings and passed resolutions against humiliation of teachers.
The professors and lecturers abstained from taking classes, held protest meetings at their colleges and demanded the removal of additional secretary for education, Dr Noorul Haq, from his post.
They demanded disciplinary action against inspection teams which conducted “unauthorized raids” on colleges and halt to vilification campaign against teachers.
A meeting of the SPLA office-bearers at Government Adamjee Science College felicitated the teachers for observing complete strike and vowed to continue the struggle for acceptance of the demands.
The association demanded provision of furniture at various colleges and appointments of teaching and non-teaching staff.
It deplored the lack of educational facilities at Government College, Razaqabad; Government College, Buffer Zone; Government Al Noor College; Government College, Orangi Town; Shams Pir College; Government Jungle Shah College; Shaheed-i-Millat Girls College; Government Boys College, New Karachi; Ibrahim Hyderi Girls College; Murad Memon College; Abdullah Haroon College, Khada; and Lyari Boys College. It demanded posting of staff at the institutions.
The SPLA demanded that the provincial government should take action against officials who had indulged in defaming teachers and decided to constitute inspection teams to conduct raids at offices of the education department.—PPI
