KARACHI, Dec 18: Leading television compare Anwar Maqsood on Wednesday called for the continuation of the Karavan Karachi-PSO road sense programme, terming it a social service that has few parallells.
Speaking as the chief guest at the concluding event of the year-long series at the PSO House here, Anwar Maqsood said the programme was a great help in developing awareness among children about traffic rules.
Maqsood greatly appreciated the cooperation extended by the Pakistan State Oil in arranging the road sense programme. He said the company was well known in Pakistan because of its services including its support to the aerial campaign for special children.
Managing Director PSO Tariq Kirmani welcomed the participants of the programme to the PSO House.
“We support a host of charitable institutions through donations and other constructive gestures that continue round the year,” Kirmani said and added that the PSO was the only oil marketing company that had installed traffic signs on roads because it was aware of the importance of traffic rules and discipline.
He said the PSO was also the first Pakistani corporate entity that would be studied as a case of exemplary corporate transformation by one of the top business schools in the world, the Wharton Business School.
Chairperson of Heritage Walley, Mrs Yasmin Lari, said the programme was open to all the schools of Karachi. “Through this programme we have so far invited 60 schools and trained 7,000 children in traffic rules,” she said.
Mrs Lari thanked Mr Tariq Kirmani for his support and appreciated Anwar Maqsood’s efforts for special children. She also announced that the Karavan Karachi carnival would be held on January 19 at Seaview. DIG traffic police Saud Mirza, speaking on the occasion, advised children not to jump from running buses.
The speeches were followed by colourful presentations by children on traffic safety, a quiz competition, a street theatre and distribution of prizes and souvenirs.—APP
