PESHAWAR, Dec 17: A two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court on Tuesday upheld capital punishment awarded to a person by a Qazi court in a triple-murder case in Dir.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan and Justice Ijaz Afzal, ruled that there was enough evidence against the appellant, Bukht Baidar.
The appellant had killed Saifur Rehman and Azizur Rehman, who were brothers, and Bashir Rehman, son of Saifur Rehman, in Oach, Dir district, in July 1992.
The motive behind the murders was a dispute over construction of a wall.
The Zilla Qazi (district and sessions judge), Dir, Amir Gulab Khan, awarded death sentence to the appellant. The complainant in the case was Faqir Rehman, a relative of the deceased.
Advocate Mian Iqbal Hussain appeared for the complainant and contended that the statements of the witnesses had connected the appellant with the commission of the offence.
