KARACHI, July 7: The Resource Generation and Outreach (RGO) department of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) recently organised a certificate distribution ceremony for the 29th batch of the student volunteer programme.

An official of the SIUT said that during the training students were taught basic principles of community service.

The student volunteers worked at various medical departments where doctors provided them with patient care and first aid training.

The students were advised to conform to the guidelines set for patient care.

They were also informed about facilities offered by SIUT outpatient departments, radiology, clinical laboratory, dialysis, transplantation, lithotripsy and other medical/ surgical services.

Under this current batch, 120 students from different schools were trained while a total of 2,926 students had been imparted training so far.

Speaking on the occasion, RGO chairperson Kishwer Zehra said that these children would become leaders of the future.

Highlighting the uniqueness of the programme, she said that some students had devoted more than 1,000 hours of community volunteer services.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of parents, teachers and students.

Speaking at the ceremony, representative of the student volunteers said that through this programme they learned how to help others.—APP
