LAHORE, Nov 20: The first locomotive rehabilitated at the Mughalpura workshops with the technical cooperation of the US and Japan rolled out on Tuesday.

The Pakistan Railways plans to rehabilitate 48 locomotives - 30 at Mughalpura and 18 at loco factory, Risalpur. The project will be completed by December, 2003. Two engines will be rolled out each month. The rolling out was also attended by Federal Minister for Communications and Railways Javed Ashraf.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the PR would be able to manufacture indigenously designed locomotives by 2005.

China, he said, had agreed to transfer required technology to the PR to help the organization achieve this object.
