LAHORE: ‘Update curricula’

LAHORE, Nov 20: The Punjab University vice-chancellor has urged varsity professors and scholars to revise and update the curriculum and syllabi to meet the present day requirements.

Speaking at a meeting of the deans of faculties, college principals and heads of departments at the Centre for South Asian Studies here at the New Campus on Tuesday, Arshad Mahmood announced Dec 31 as the last date for updating the curricula.

He told the house about starting the subject of archeology in the history department. He said a school of biological sciences would be established with the help of university’s Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology to help strengthen the science subjects at initial stages. Besides this, the university had started specialization in environmental engineering and bio-chemistry engineering, he said.

The meeting also discussed the prospects of introducing four-year BA/BSc graduations after 12 years of schooling.

The vice-chancellor formed a committee to look into the pros and cons of the proposal, which would submit its recommendations to the provincial government. The VC also asked teachers to introduce the system of official correspondence by email and send all their letters and documents by this system to save time and expenditure.
