SUKKUR, Dec 9: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal deputy general secretary, MNA Liaquat Baloch, has said the majority party should get the first chance to form government in Sindh otherwise the province would plunge into political crisis.

He was speaking at an Eid Milan party of the Islami Jamiat Tulba at the press club here on Saturday.

The MMA leader said any individual or the Supreme Court had no right to amend the Constitution as it was the exclusive right of the parliament.

He said the Legal Framework Order and other constitutional amendments should be discussed in the parliament and the discretionary powers of the president under the LFO should also be reviewed.

He said the MMA believed in the supremacy of parliament and added the chief executive’s discretionary powers should be given to the prime minister.

He said the MMA was supporting government under some conditions, and it would not compromise on its principles.

He said it was a matter of survival of the state institutions and added everyone should strive for the success of democratic system.

He criticized PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto for her negative approach towards the MMA.

He said Asif Ali Zardari had assured the support of the PPP for MMA’s prime ministerial candidate Fazlur Rehman but Ms Bhutto betrayed the MMA under foreign pressure and in order to strike a deal for Zardari’s release and for withdrawal of cases against herself.

Baloch said the MMA wanted to bring a change in the system in the larger interest of people.

He said the provinces should be given the powers, allowed under the Constitution.

He said the MMA believed in the enforcement of Islamic laws. He said both the NWFP and Balochistan governments would serve as model governments.

He said the MMA leadership would soon undertake a tour of Sindh and Punjab to restore public confidence.

Earlier, Sindh MMA president and MNA Asadullah Bhutto said impediments in the way of democratic process would be removed through consultation with the other political forces.

He said the 27-point charter, presented by the MMA, covered social, economic, political and religious issues, facing Sindh and the country.

He demanded the implementation of recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology, made between 1973 and 2002, and the implementation of the 1991 Water Accord.

Two killed: Two persons, a woman and the chief of the Chachar Force, were killed and a policeman was injured after armed persons opened fire on them in Pano Aqil on Sunday.

Five armed persons arrived at the house of the chief of the Chachar tribe’s private anti-bandit force, Wahid Bakhsh Balelani, in the Masaan Muhalla, Pano Aqil, and offered him Eid greetings.

After embracing him, they took up their arms and opened fire as a result Wahid and a woman, Fattul, the wife of Mohammad Sachal Chachar, were killed and a police constable, Mohammad Murad Chachar, was injured.

Later, the members of the Chachar Force chased the attackers and caught hold of three of them with three Kalashnikovs.
