QUETTA, Dec 8: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said that his government is ready to hold negotiations with the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) to resolve political issues.
“I believe dialogue is the only way to resolve political issues, and I am ready for talks with the PPP,” Jamali said while talking to newsmen at his native town Rojhan Jamali on Sunday.
He said that earlier he had held talks with the PPP leadership present in the country on the formation of a government. If they were interested in holding talks on political issues the government’s reply would be positive, Jamali added.
In reply to a question about the formation of a government in Sindh, the prime minister said Sindh would have its government soon as the provincial assembly session had been convened on Dec 12.
The prime minister said the majority party in Sindh would be allowed to form its government and the federal government would not hesitate in handing over power to the elected chief minister.
“If Pakistan People’s Party musters the necessary support to form its government in Sindh, its right would not be opposed as the majority party,” the prime minister stated and added that if the PPP failed to form its government, then the PML-Q would form its government in Sindh.
He said his government’s policy regarding the formation of government in Sindh was very clear. “The party which enjoys the support of majority has the first right to form a government,” he said.
In reply to another question, the prime minister said the PML-Q had not yet nominated its candidate for the top slot in Sindh. However, the party would soon take a decision in this connection, he added.
Answering a question about Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, Jamali said that they had left the country of their own accord, and the government had not asked them to do so.
When his attention was drawn towards the release of leaders and workers of the banned sectarian organizations in Balochistan on the instructions of the chief minister, Jamali said that he had fully authorized the provincial governments to take decisions according to their needs and circumstances of their respective areas. About the development of Balochistan, the prime minister said the government would give special attention to the promotion of agriculture in the province, and in this regard maximum facilities would be provided to farmers.
Regarding distribution of Indus water, the prime minister said the Indus River System Authority had been implementing an active policy since long, and after the formation of new governments this policy would not be changed. However, he assured the newsmen that every province would get its due share of water.
UTILITY PRICES: Speaking at a big gathering in Rojhan Jamali, Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali said that his government would make all possible efforts to reduce prices of flour, ghee and electricity. He said that he would also try to give relief to the people in gas price.
He said the natural gas would be supplied to the Ghari Khairo area soon. Directives had been issued to the authorities concerned in this connection, he added.
The prime minister said a six-month remission in the sentence of prisoners on the eve of Eid had already been instead of usual three months, and added that for women prisoners’ the remission would be for one year.
He ordered release of all prisoners over the age of 65, while sentence of juvenile prisoners who were not involved in heinous crimes was also remitted.
Jamali had also directed the authorities that fine money up to Rs20,000 of the prisoners who could not be released due to nonpayment of the money, should be paid from Baitul Mal.
JAMALI-LEGHARI MEETING: Former president and chief of Millat Party, Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Laghari met Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali along with his sons Owais Leghari and Jafar Leghari, in Rojhan Jamali on Sunday.
They remained with the prime minister for some time and discussed matters of common interest. Farooq Leghari also condoled with Mir Abdul Ghaffar Khan Jamali the death of his son Mir Nusrat Jamali and offered fateha for the departed soul
