KARACHI, Dec 8: Two alleged car hijackers were shot dead and two others wounded in Quaidabad on Sunday night, in what police claimed an encounter.
Police said that bandits hijacked a Honda Civic car near Dalmia in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and a message was aired on police wireless about the incident.
Police noticed the car near Quaidabad and chased it. Police signalled the bandits/occupants of the car to stop, but they fired at police. Police returned the fire resulting in the death of two suspected car hijackers sitting in the car. Two others were wounded who were identified as Imran and Abdul Jabbar. Police also arrested the two other occupants of the car who remained unhurt. The identity of those who were killed and that of these two men could not be known immediately.
Three TT pistols were recovered from the hijacked car.
Police said that Imran was resident of a locality near Dalmia and Jabbar lived in Azizabad.
KILLED: Two men and a girl were shot dead in the city on Friday.
An activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement was shot dead in Gulistan-i- Jauhar.
Police said that Mohammed Yunus, aged 35, resident of Block-13 in Gulistan- i-Jauhar, went out to see his friends on Eid day to exchange Eid greetings. When he reached Block-17 near Iqra Complex, unidentified men shot him to death.
Police sent the body to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre for post-mortem. After autopsy the body was handed over to the victim’s father.
Police said that the dead man was affiliated with the MQM (Haqiqi).
A man killed his neighbour after arguments with him in Orangi Town.
Police said that Muzaffar and Tariq had a money dispute as Tariq borrowed money from Muzaffar. Tariq told Muzaffar that he would return the money after a few days. However, on Eid day, in the presence of guests, at Tariq’s house Muzaffar and his friends passed taunting remarks against Tariq. This provoked Tariq. He fetched a TT pistol from his house and fired shots in the air in order to frighten Muzaffar and his friends.
After some time when Tariq, aged 24, came out of his house, Muzaffar and his friends opened indiscriminate fire on him resulting in his instantaneous death. In the firing, a 11-year-old girl, Aisha Rauf, who was playing in the street, and two men, Anwar Khan, and Yameen, were also injured.
Aisha died in a hospital, where Anwar was stated to be in serious condition.
ROAD ACCIDENTS: Two men died in road accidents in the city on Friday.
Police said that Shafiq Abdul Ghaffar, aged 35, was run over by a motorcycle while walking across a road in North Nazimabad. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in unconscious state where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police arrested the motorcyclist, Tufail Siddiqui, and impounded the vehicle.
An unidentified man died when he came under the wheels of a vehicle on Sharea Faisal near Awami Markaz in the police limits of Tipu Sultan. He died on the spot. After post-mortem at the JPMC the body has been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification.
