ISLAMABAD, Feb 20: Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday summoned an Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) official on March 14 in two identical petitions filed for the recovery of two missing activists of banned Hizbut Tahrir (HuT).

Petitioner Mohammad Islam Abid and Naveed Mukhtar had earlier petitioned the court through Advocate Umar Hayat Sindhu, regarding the abduction of their brothers-in-law Dr Abdul Qayyum and Dr Abdul Waheed.

The counsel contended before the court that both Dr Qayyum and Dr Waheed had been missing since August 2011.

According to him Dr Qayyum was picked up from Rahim Yar Khan whereas Dr Abdul Wahid from Lahore and they were among six activists of HuT who went missing during July and August last year in a crackdown on banned outfit after the military authorities arrested brigadier Ali Khan for his alleged connections with HuT.

The other four, Imran Yousafzai, Hayyan Dawar Khan, Usama Hanif and Abdul Wajid were recovered but these two are still missing.

The counsel said that one of the four abductees Osama Hanif after being released, while recording his statement before the magistrate revealed that Maj Tariq had abducted him and detained him in a building in sector G-9/4 of Islamabad.

The counsel alleged that the missing men are still in the custody of Maj Tariq therefore he should be summoned.

The court also placed the statement of Hanif on its record.

The petitioners have made federation of Pakistan, ministry of defence, DG ISI and DG MI, district police officers of Rahim Yar Khan and Lahore as respondents in the petition.
