GILGIT, Dec 1: A leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, Northern Areas, Abdul Wahid, asked the government to dissolve the Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC) and demanded fresh elections because, the Council, he said, had failed to take up fundamental problem of the region.

He was speaking to journalists at an Iftar party, jointly arranged by the Muslim Students Federation and Muslim Youth Wing on Saturday at a local hotel in Gilgit.

He said that in three years the council had failed to legislate on various issues, which had frustrated the 1.5 million people of the region.

He said that the PML-Q would provide jobs to youth on merit and would put an end to nepotism. He also assured the youth that the financial institutions would be asked to introduce a system based on fair distribution of loans.

Abdul Wahid hoped that political and constitutional rights would soon become application in the region.

He also slammed sectarian elements and urged the students to forge unity among their ranks.
