SHIKARPUR, Dec 1: Sindh Assembly session would be convened after Eid-ul-Fitr, the federal minister for railways, Ghous Bux Khan Maher, said on Sunday.

He said this while talking to newsmen at his Wazirabad residence near Shikarpur.

Mr Maher, who is also the president of the PML(Q) (Sindh), said that the PML (Q) was constantly in touch with the People’s Party Parliamentarians, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, the Pakistan Muslim League(F), and the National Alliance regarding formation of a consensus government in Sindh.

Referring to nomination of the chief minister of Sindh, he said that the matter would be decided in a joint meeting of the leaders of the PML(Q), the PML(F), the PPP, the MMA, and the Grand National Alliance, and added that efforts were being made regarding it.

Referring to the delayed provincial assembly session, Mr Maher said that it had been postponed to accommodate a large number of elected legislators, who were presently out of the country to perform Umrah.

Rejecting the idea of existence of no-go areas in Karachi, he said that all citizens were entitled to live anywhere in the country freely, adding that the government would strive to protect the life, honour, and property of all citizens.

In the meantime, Mr Maher said that he would strive to eliminate corruption in the railways besides try to bring improvement in the performance of the public service department.

The minister said that all encroachments on railway lands would be removed.

The minister promised that he would make efforts for construction of dual railway tracks from Kotri via Shikarpur to Quetta and Peshawar.

He said that the railways was planning to purchase railway engines and other machinery from China. A contract regarding it had been finalized, he added.
