ISLAMABAD, Nov 28: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has said Pakistan shares the anguish and deep concern of the world community over the continued Israeli atrocities and occupation of Palestinian territories.
The President in his message on the occasion of the International Day of solidarity with the People of Palestine which falls on November 29 said: “Pakistan joins the world community in observing the day of solidarity with the people of Palestine.
“Unfortunately, the Middle East is once again the victim of unprecedented Israeli violence, which has destabilized the entire region and derailed the peace process.
“Israeli’s re-occupation of key Palestinian cities, premeditated and systematic destruction of the Palestinian Authority’s administrative infrastructure, deliberate targeting of the headquarters of President Arafat and Palestinian security services, have not only resulted in the tragic loss of life and destruction of property but has also exposed Israeli’s continued determination to scuttle the process.
“We have repeatedly denounced Israeli’s aggressive actions and indiscriminate attacks against the Palestinians, which are fast unravelling the structure of peace in the Middle East, which has been put together through years of diplomatic efforts.
“Pakistan has supported all international efforts aimed at the resolution of this lingering conflict.
“We welcomed the unanimous declaration of the Arab League Summit, which was adopted in Beirut on 328 March 2002.
“The declaration offers Israel peace and security in exchange for its complete withdrawal from territories occupied by it since 1967. We were disappointed with Israel’s rejection of this positive initiative.
“We also welcomed UN Security Council Resolution 1997 of March 12 which affirms the vision of a Palestine State living side by side with Israel within secure and recognized borders as well as the UN Security Council resolutions 1402, 1403, 1405 and 1435 which, inter-alia, call upon Israel to withdraw troops from all Palestinian cities and the implementation of meaningful cease-fire.
“On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the people of Palestine the government and people of Pakistan reiterate their call to the international community to send a clear message to Israel that any effort to impose a military solution in Palestine will not succeed.
“It is our sincere hope that sanity will prevail over mindless violence, and negotiations will be urgently resumed, so that the entire region is not engulfed in a wider conflict with incalculable consequences for world peace.
“Pakistan firmly believes that the only way to bring about a lasting peace is the resumption of negotiations leading to a comprehensive, just and durable peace settlement, consistent with Un Security Council resolutions 242 and 338, which stipulate the total withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupies Arab territories and call for respect for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, in particular the right to establish an independent Palestinian state, with Al-Quds Al Shariff as its capital and return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland,” the message read.
