KARACHI, Nov 27: The Parliamentary leader of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, Nisar Khuhro, has castigated the decision to postpone the Sindh Assembly session indefinitely calling it a move to facilitate the proxy of a pro-government minority group.

Addressing a news conference at the residence of Ghulam Qadir Palejo, Mr Khuhro said that there was no law to link convening of the assembly session to the show of strength outside the House.

He warned that this would further alienate the people of Sindh who had been subjected to autocratic and undemocratic steps aimed at denying them their rights and stripping their elected representatives of a free hand to govern them.

He said the decision was tantamount to bulldozing the mandate given by the masses.

Mr Khuhro regretted that the rulers had not learnt the lessons from 1970 event and were determined to impose their will on people.

“Why isolate Sindh and act on the whims of an individual? They are pushing the people of Sindh to the wall without realizing the dangerous consequences that may emerge,” he said.

He also regretted that attempts were being made to prevent the majority parties — PPP and MQM — from playing their democratic role.

The attempts were aimed at imposing governor’s rule, he feared.

Mr Khuhro said that the inaugural session of the assembly was postponed because the King’s favourite group lacked the required majority in the House whereas the PPP was in a position to prove its majority.

He said that the PPP would take a decision on the future course of action and register its protest at an appropriate level. The party would examine all legal options in this regard, he added.

When asked about his party’s parlays with Pir Pagara, he avoided going into details but remarked: “We are hopeful.”
