Hanif named director

LAHORE, Nov 25: Former Olympian, Hanif Khan has been appointed tournament director of the 50th national hockey championship final round to be held in Karachi from Jan 25 to Feb 5.

Hanif, who was recently dismissed as a member of the national selection committee, was given the new role by Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) which has appointed different officials to conduct the preliminary and final rounds of the championship, smoothly.

Col. (retd.) Zafar Ali Khan who tendered his resignation as manager of the Pakistan team after the 14th Asian Games has been named tournament director for preliminary rounds for departmental teams to be held in Lahore from Jan 12 to 22.

The preliminary rounds for the regional teams will be held in four cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Karachi, simultaneously from Jan 1 to 10.

The tournament directors at each centre are allowed to avail the services of additional umpires, if needed in consultation with the organising secretary.
