THE traffic police in Karachi are charging Rs500 for cars and Rs100 for motorcycles on account of lifting/towing charges for being parked on unauthorised places.
Although a challan is issued for ‘no parking’ charges, no reciept is given for towing/lifting charges. It is presumed that this money collected in the millions on a daily basis is not deposited into government coffers, rather it is pocketed by police officials.
It is also common knowledge that most roads in Karachi are encroached upon by the parking mafia in connivance with the traffic police.
Our provincial legislatures should look into the matter.
