LAHORE, Nov 20: Trials to weed out under training Pakistan Whites squad will be held here Nov 29-30 at National Hockey Stadium, announced team management Wednesday.
“ We are likely to retain 30 players from the two-day trials after thoroughly judging the individual talent of 90 trainees”, said team manager Sami Khan after supervising a training session.
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced a pool of players to attend a short duration training camp under the guidance of Olympians Sami and Kawaja Muhamamd Junaid ,the team coach, in an effort to prepare a second string after senior team’s dismal showing in the last month Busan Asian games where the team finished fourth behind Malaysia after losing a classification match for bronze.
The Whites will take part in a league introduced by PHF in which Pakistan Senior and Junior will also be playing in a six match series.
The event will help in identifying a reservoir of players for future places in the senior team besides forming a White team and a junior side to fulfil various international commitments.
Sami said it was a challenging task to determine the potential and talent of all the participants but the team management was working really hard to accomplish this task.
“We are trying different combinations at specialised positions and through this process we will be evaluating a pool of players who have abundance of talent”, he maintained.
Sami said chairman, selection committee, Akhtar Rasool Chaudhary is also watching the training of the Whites players and his presence will help in finalising a balanced squad.
He said the team management would submit its recommendations to the selection committee on daily performances of the trainees to help the selectors to make up their mind regarding an individual player when they seem him in action during the trials.
The camp will continue at the same place after the short listing of the players till the start of the League in December.—APP
