KARACHI, Nov 17: Three men were killed in the city on Sunday.

A man was shot dead at a mosque in a shanty town in Gulzar-i-Hijri police limits near Sohrab Goth.

Police said that unidentified men opened fire on Maulana Hafeezullah on the premises of Ibrahim Khalilullah mosque, situated behind Al-Asif Square, off Super Highway. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police said that a case pertaining to a bomb blast in the same mosque had been registered against Maulana Hafeezullah a year back, and he was arrested in the case some eight months back. In the explosion a man, Asadullah, was killed and two others were injured.

Maulana Hafeezullah was released on bail recently. He ran a Madressah in his locality, police claimed and said that he admitted boys to his Madressah where he prepared them for jihad in Afghanistan.

A 55-year-old man was shot dead in Samnabad.

Police said that Gulab Khan, a donkey-cart driver, was intercepted near Al-Noor Mor by a man, who came there in a rickshaw. Those living in the area told police that the unidentified man got down from the rickshaw, had arguments with Gulab Khan, shot him and sped off in the rickshaw.

Gulab Khan hailed from Mohmand Agency in the NWFP. His family told police that some 30 years back he had killed a man of his rival clan. Police suspected vendetta to be the motive for the killing.

A sub-inspector of the excise police was found murdered in his apartment in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Police said that Tanveer Ahmed, an excise sub-inspector, was stabbed to death and later hanged. However, the body was found lying on the floor when police arrived in the victim’s apartment at Saleem Centre off University Road in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Neighbours informed police when they felt foul smell coming out of the apartment.

The body was sent to a hospital for post-mortem. Police had not ascertained the motive for the killing till our going to press. A police official, however, claimed that the dead man was, reportedly, a eunuch, and this aspect would also be investigated.
