SARGODHA, Nov 16: District Nazim Amjad Ali Noon said on Friday the district had been earning Rs700 million every year through the export of citrus.
Speaking at a seminar, the Nazim said the area for cultivation of citrus had been increased up to 13 per cent whereas the production had been increased up to 20 times during the last four decades.
The Nazim said the government was setting up a citrus research centre for ensuring better quality and increase in yield which would help increase its export.
He appreciated the government decision to lift ban on transportation of citrus in wooden boxes.
Exporters from Sargodha also spoke at the seminar.
RANJHA: Financial institutions should play their role to increase agro-based products and to fortify the economy.
This was stated by Punjab Law Minister Dr Khalid Ranjha while inaugurating a bank’s branch here on Thursday evening.
The minister stressed the need for winning the trust of consumers which according to him was inevitable for the promotion of the banking sector.
He suggested that bankers should extend full financial assistance to growers on easy terms particularly in introducing modern technique which would help produce quality yield.
Earlier, PICIC president Shaikh Bilal Ahmad said some 15 branches of PICIC were operating throughout the country while five more had been set up in Sargodha, Khushab and Karachi. Fifteen more branches would start operating by the end of 2002.
