Sales tax refund ordered

ISLAMABAD, Nov 13: Federal Tax Ombudsman Justice Saleem Akhtar has directed the Central Board of Revenue to release the due sales tax refund to an assessee shortly.

The Ombudsman observed that the sales tax refund amounting to Rs1.058 million as ordered by the Sales Tax Tribunal be paid to the complainant without further delay, said an official announcement issued on Wednesday.

The Ombudsman further said that compliance report should be produced to his office within 30 days of this order.

The complainant, Morafco Industries Ltd, Faisalabad, was registered with sales tax department, Faisalabad. The sales tax department had created an illegal demand of additional sales tax amounting to Rs1.058 million and had adjusted it on October 20, 1992, in the account current ledger maintained by the complainant under the supervision of the department, the announcement added.
