KARACHI: Akhtar Ali Khan dies

KARACHI, Nov 12: Classical singer Akhtar Ali Khan passed away here on Tuesday.

Born in Bhopal in 1937, he learnt classical music from the famous music composer, Firoz Nizami. He served the Karachi Arts Council for a number of years in the 1960-70s and was a popular figure in the musical and cultural circles of the city. He presented a popular serial “Ghazal Ka Safar” on PTV in 1993.

He remained the president of ‘Amateur Melodies Club’ since its inception in 1999.

He has leaves a wife, two sons and a daughter. He was buried in the PECHS graveyard and his funeral was attended by a large number of his friends and admirers.
