KARACHI, Sept 3: With a hat-trick under his belt, four-year-old bay colt Lajawab is tipped to stretch his winning run should he land The Karachi Derby when the Gymkhana race meeting resumes at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The colt has returned with flying colours in the last three outings. His two successes, including The Independence Day Cup, came under seasoned jockey Ghulam Shabbir II while M. Manzoor piloted home once.

However, rider M. Rehan has replaced Shabbir for The Karachi Derby which has a small field of six horses who will vie in the one mile contest in the sixth race.

If one goes by his (Lajawab’s) current form, he is likely to strike again by overcoming challenger Hit The Heights whom he had beaten by five lengths in The Independence Day Cup last month.

Lajawab is also our day’s best and in all probability will oblige punters.

Two-year-old dark bay filly Black Caviar look fancied to make amends by capturing The Eid Milan Cup in the fifth race.

She has finished second behind Letay Jao beaten by nine lengths in her debut in The Kingri Lodge Performance Cup.

The Eid Milan Cup, to be gone over four-and-a-half furlongs, has a small field of seven runners. Colt Swell Victory should follow the footsteps of Black Caviar to secure a place on board.

At the outset, colt Star Champion should atone for the previous loss by picking up spoils in the opener.

Lava Man, a seven-year-old chestnut horse, has bright prospects of keeping his winning run intact in the next race. He has a fine record of three successive wins.

Fillies Lady Gaga and National Lady should pick up spoils in the next two races while Well Don and Dilruba should shine in the remaining two races.

A card of eight races including two cups has been drawn for the day. The first race starts at 12.30pm.
