15 top teams to fight for supremacy

LAHORE, Nov 7: The 38th national volleyball championship will be played at POF Sports Complex, Wah from Dec 29, 2002 to Jan 4, 2003.

Pakistan Volleyball Federation president, Chaudhary Mohammad Yaqoob said Thursday that 15 teams of the affiliated units will take part in the competition.

 Yaqoob announced that PVF was also introducing Federation Cup, the inaugural session of which will be held in Faisalabad from Jan 13 to 19, Zafar Abbas Luk has been named chief organiser.

PVF chief stated that the second IOC Olympic Solidarity Level-I course for coaches will be held at Wah Cantt from Nov 14 to 25, in which a total of 25 participants, including 20 men and five women will attend. Abdel Hamid El Wassimy of Egypt, will be the course director.

He further pointed out that national selection committee will soon visit the ongoing national training camp set up at Islamabad for the 9th SAF Games to reduce the strength of the probables to 16 as directed by the Pakistan Sports Board.

Yaqoob explained that the Asian Senior Championship to be held in Pakistan next year was uncertain as the Asian Volleyball Federation (AVF) did not intimate the confirmation to PVF in this connection.

AVF had allotted the event to Pakistan, but later it suspended the decision because some Asian countries were not ready to play here due to security concerns.

The AVF president Hui, was to visit Pakistan in September to review security arrangements but his visit did not take place.
