Smoker triggers fire alarm at airport

Published November 8, 2002

RAWALPINDI, Nov 7: A man landing at Islamabad International Airport sent fire alarms ringing when he smoked cigarette close to a smoke detector at the arrival lounge.

The officials concerned at the airport said the alarms started blaring on Wednesday morning due to which the fire fighting system of the airport was automatically activated.

Firemen and personnel of utility departments — electricity, gas and telephone — went on alert to trace the source of fire, but, despite a hectic search, nothing could be found.

The administration then undertook zone-wise checking of the airport, to find out as to what triggered the fire alarm. The inquiries revealed that the alarm was activated after a passenger of PK-300 took some deep puffs of cigarette while standing underneath a fire detector at the domestic arrival lounge.
