LAHORE, Nov 7: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) is not taking seriously the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians’ demands package for cooperation in government formation.
Talking to Dawn here on Thursday, JI information secretary Amirul Azim said: “Behaviour of the PPP and not its package would be the basis for any future political cooperation. The party is showing hypocrisy in holding talks with the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and the PML(Q) simultaneously. Under the present circumstances, it will be improper to discuss the proposed package.”
It should have held talks with both the parties one after the other and not at the same time to show its sincerity in ending the deadlock in national politics, he added.
Mr Azim believed that the PPP was just trying to use the bogey of a government of Mullahs to intimidate the US and Gen Pervez Musharraf into yielding to its demands for release of Asif Zardari and exoneration of Benazir Bhutto from corruption charges.
He did not rule out political cooperation with the PML-Q in the present situation saying that the basic issue was the Legal Framework Order (LFO).
