KARACHI, Nov 6: Pakistan is organizing a single country exhibition in Tokyo, Japan from February 25-28, 2003. It is expected to be a big event because as many as 30 stalls will be set-up by leading exporters of cotton made-ups.

In this regard a preliminary meeting was held here on Tuesday by the EPB officials with the Director General, Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) and attended by 25 leading exporters of cotton made-ups.

The objective of the exhibition is to introduce Pakistani textile related products to the Japanese market and let them know about its dynamics.

The DG Jetro informed the participants that Japan annually imported textile products in the range of $24.624 billion. Out of these imports garments constitutes 74pc, fabrics 5pc, yarn 4pc, textile fibres 3pc and other made-up goods 10pc.

He further said that major suppliers of textile products to Japan are China (78pc), Italy (5pc), Korea (3pc), Vietnam (3pc), USA (2pc) and India (1pc).

Pakistan can capture a sizable ratio of this market by emphasising more on quality issues, he added. The Jetro official also briefed the participants about the dynamics of the Japanese market and said that for finished fabrics, high quality, competitive price and logistic skill are key factors to compete in the market.
