ISLAMABAD, Nov 5: A former official of Wapda tried to commit suicide by shooting himself to avoid being caught in a raid by the NWFP police at Bharakahu on Tuesday.

According to a spokesman for capital police, the raid by CID Peshawar police was illegal because they had not sought permission from the local police to make the arrest.

Zardad Khan, a resident of PTV Colony, was in his house when the CID police, having arrest warrants from the National Accountability Bureau, conducted the raid, the spokesman said.

On seeing the police, the man allegedly shot himself with a pistol. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when the CID police removed the injured to a local hospital, the spokesman said.

After an investigation into the incident, the police registered a case of attempted suicide.
