KARACHI, Nov 5: The Sindh High Court allowed on Tuesday former MNA Hakim Ali Zardari to proceed abroad for medical treatment.
His petition for permission to go abroad for hip surgery and other treatment, filed by Advocate Farooq H. Naik, came up before a division bench comprising Justices Shabbir Ahmed and Mohammed Sadiq Leghari. Appearing on court notice, Deputy Attorney-General Syed Zaki Mohammed submitted that the federal government had no objection to the plea.
Permission was denied by the trial special court for offences in banks, which had earlier granted him bail.
The case pending before the court pertained to deposit of foreign exchange bearer certificates as security in the early seventies.
The bench directed the trial court to release Mr Zardari’s passport, which has expired in the meanwhile, to enable him to apply for a new one.
