PARIS, Nov 2: In a judgment handed down with much embarrassment, a French judge has admitted that there’s very little France, and its justice system, can do to obtain the return of two nationals who being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The decision by Tribunal de Paris declares that the action introduced in mid-October by two attorneys — William Bourdon and Jacques Deray — representing the families of two Guantanamo detainees, Nizar Sassi and Mourad Benchellali, is simply “un-receivable.”
It’s a technical decision taken, say the attorneys, to avoid a face-off between France and the United States.
