KARACHI, Nov 1: Two young men fell victim to reckless driving in the city on Friday.
A young man died in a road accident in Manghopir. Police said that Abdul Momin, aged 24, who was riding on a bicycle, was knocked down by a speeding minibus (PE-2624) of route G-19. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police said that the bus driver escaped, but they impounded the vehicle.
A young man died in a hit-and-run accident in Mehmoodabad. Police said that Atif Husain, aged 30, was run over by a speeding vehicle. He was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre where he died.
The unidentified vehicle sped off after the accident.
DIE: Two drug addicts died and four others fell unconscious after they injected themselves with a mixture of sedatives in Essa Nagri on late Thursday night.
Police said that a group of drug addicts bought sedatives from a medical store, mixed them up and injected themselves with the mixture.
As a result, one of the addicts, identified as Younis Masih, aged 30, died. Five others were found unconscious on the pavement of Azmat Centre on Sir Shah Sulaiman Road in Essa Nagri.
They were shifted to the JPMC where they were identified as Ghulam Safdar, aged 32, Salamat Masih, aged 40, Mushtaq, aged 20, Ashraf, aged 20, and Allahyar, aged 40. Salamat Masih died in the hospital.
Sources at the hospital described their condition as serious.
The SHO of PIB police station said that the owner of the medical store from where the drug addicts bought the sedatives had been arrested and an FIR (No 286/2002) had been registered against him.
He said that since police were dealing sternly with drug peddlers in Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town, heroin had become difficult to come by in the area. So addicts were turning to alternative addictions.
A woman died and three others were injured in a landslide in North Karachi.
Police said that a group of women had gone up a hillock near Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police station to collect earth.
