KARACHI, Oct 31: The prices of the liquefied petroleum gas have soared to an all-time high of Rs37 per kilogram in black market.
The shortage of the commodity amid growing demand owing to the advent of winter is stated to be the main reason. However, the LPG being used in vehicles as fuel is out of stock at most of the outlets.
The production has dropped due to the closure of LPG units at two refineries, said an LPG wholesaler. He also attributed the price rise to international developments and said prices had soared in the international markets owing to tension between the US and Iraq.
The LPG prices witnessed a record low in April when it was available for Rs22 per kilogram. Soon after the deregulation of petroleum products, the prices increased and in August the prices rose to Rs29 per kilogram. Since September the prices steadily increased up to Rs32 per kilogram. The prices remained steady during October when the federal commerce minister also took serious notice of the increase in the LPG prices.—APP
