Asif picked up from Pims for 2 hours

Published October 30, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Oct 29: As the bizarre and inconclusive meetings between various parliamentary parties and groups continue for formation of new government a rumour created quite a stir in the capital late Tuesday night that the jailed PPP leader, Asif Ali Zardari, had been picked up and taken to an unknown place.

The sources at the interior ministry and at the PIMS hospital, where the former senator has been kept, neither confirmed nor denied the incident.

A PPP source, however, said that Mr Zardari had been picked from the hospital at 10.30pm and taken to an unknown place. He was brought back after two hours, they said.

They, however, did not identify the persons who picked Mr Zardari from the hospital nor the motive behind the move.
