GILGIT: Veterinary doctors seek jobs

Published October 30, 2002

GILGIT, Oct 29: Over 50 veterinary doctors of Northern Areas have demanded jobs in government departments and non-governmental organizations.

In a press statement on Tuesday, they said Northern Areas economy is mainly based on agriculture and livestock where professional doctors and agriculturists could play a significant role to enhance the agro-based products.

They also demanded to recruit veterinary doctors in each tehsil so that they would help establish livestock farming on scientific scale. They claimed that there had been sanctioned a huge amount in NGOs for promotion of livestock and new breeds, but the management of rural support programmes were deliberately delaying their appointments.

They also suggested that a large number of jobless vet doctors can be absorbed by upgrading various veterinary dispensaries in rural areas where the doctors can initiate artificial insemination to obtain the better livestock breed.

They also demanded to establish livestock farms and artificial insemination centres in all the five districts of Northern Areas.
