HYDERABAD, Oct 28: The Municipal workers on Monday locked a number of offices of the Taluka City Council in protest against the non-payment of their two-month salaries. They also took out a rally from the TCC building to the press club.

Addressing the workers, the CBA union leaders — Akram Rajput, Ismail Shah, Nathumal Chohan, and Shamu Shareef — vowed to continue the struggle against the non-payment of their salaries.

They said that the union leaders were not afraid of the termination of their services as they were ready to tender their resignations.

Akram Rajput said that the workers were not being paid their salaries since the last two months.

He claimed that the TCC had collected Rs8.8 million under the head of Property and Betterment Tax but it was not being utilized for the disbursement of workers’ salaries.

He demanded the governor to constitute an inquiry committee to look into the issues of municipal workers.

He accused the TCC Nazim, Haji Moinuddin Sheikh and Naib Nazim Abdul Qadeer Naghar, of taking commission from the contractors.

He claimed that the employees were not concerned whether the TCC was purchasing vehicles because they were only interested in their salaries.

He claimed that he possessed evidence of some union council Nazimeen who were involved in financial malpractices.

He claimed that when he talked to the TCC Nazim on Oct 17 he was issued threats and abused.

TCC NAZIM: The TCC Nazim, Haji Moinuddin Sheikh, told the Hyderabad bureau over the phone that Rs4.5 million were being disbursed among the Hindu employees to enable them to celebrate Diwali on Nov 4, and added that he had been making regular correspondence with the secretary, local government, and other higher government functionaries for the payment of the pending one-month salary of workers, i.e. June 2000.
