KARACHI, Oct 27: About 100 stalls will be set up at different bachat bazaars and in the densely-populated areas for supply of good quality and low-priced atta (flour) to people during Ramazan.

This was stated by food secretary Imtiaz Kazi, while presiding over a meeting of the department officers, which reviewed the steps taken for ensuring atta price stability during Ramazan and to check artificial shortage and supply of wheat to flour mills.

He warned that no increase in atta prices would be tolerated nor those creating an artificial shortage would be spared.

Mr Kazi pointed out that Sindh cabinet had already reduced the wheat price from Rs827 to Rs750 per 100kg for the month of Ramazan while in the meeting with flour mill owners on Tuesday, reduction in flour prices would be announced.

He said all the 100 flour selling stalls would be set up by the flour mill owners and such stalls would also be set up in Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and other big cities.

Director food Iqbal Ahmed Zubedi informed the meeting that a vigilance committee had been formed which would check flour quality and price at the stalls and would also ensure that the wheat being supplied to the flour mills at a reduced price was being used for the purpose.

He said that at present 0.85 million tons of wheat was available at government godowns, while 0.2 million tons would be supplied to flour mills for use during Ramazan.

The meeting was attended by vigilance officer Tariq Memon, deputy director Abdul Majeed Bajari and other officials.—APP
