RAWALPINDI, Oct 24: The district government has asked the jail authorities to compile a list of prison inmates, who have completed their sentences, but are languishing in jail because of non-payment of fines.

District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani, who visited Central Jail Adiala on Thursday, said he would arrange the payment of fines for the deserving cases with the help of philanthropists.

“I would like to see these people re-united with their families on the auspicious occasion of Eidul Fitr,” he said, while talking to this reporter.

Taking note of the poor availability of recreation facilities in the barracks, he promised to provide 13 television sets.

Mr Kiani directed the senior superintendent police to provide adequate guard for transporting prisoners to the courts and back.

He had been informed that many prisoners could not be presented in the courts because of non-availability of police guard leading to delay in the disposal of cases.

The district Nazim was presented complaints about delay in presentation of challan before the courts and wrong investigation. He ordered the authorities to collect details about all such cases.

Reacting to a complaint, he asked the jail officials to arrange the transfer of a prisoner to Attock jail. The prisoner had told the Nazim that he was seeking a compromise with the grieved party, but was facing difficulties in contacting them because of being lodged in Adiala Jail.

The Nazim reviewed the security arrangements at the jail. He was told that the installation of a closed circuit television had been completed, which had not only boosted security, but also improved monitoring.

The Nazim was informed by the authorities concerned that the problem of water shortage in the jail had been overcome to a great extent. The plastic drums that had been declared by the Nazim as hazardous during the last visit had also been removed.
