KARACHI, Oct 24: Three persons committed suicide in separate incidents in different parts of the city on Thursday.
A 16-year-old boy hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his home in Gulistan-i-Jauhar after he failed in his intermediate part-I examination.
Police said Ghulam Husain, 16, hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his house in Sunny View Apartments Block-14, Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
The family informed the police and shifted the body to a private hospital.
In another incident, a teenaged girl, Meena Bibi, 13, hanged herself with a rope from the ceiling fan in her house in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
Police said that Meena hanged herself when she was alone in her home in Husain Hazara Goth, Block-4, when her mother had gone to work.
Police said that victim’s father had died some time back and the family was being supported by her mother who used to work as a domestic servant.
Her body was shifted to JPMC for postmortem examination.
In the third incident, a young girl who had attempted to commit suicide on Wednesday evening died at a private hospital during treatment.
Police said Mahreen, 22, had hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her home in sector 15A-5, Sir Syed Town on Wednesday evening, but was saved by her family members.
She was admitted to a private hospital where she died during treatment on Thursday, police said.
SHOT DEAD: A bandit was shot dead and four persons were injured when a motorcyclist tried to resist a hijacking attempt in Baghdadi on Thursday night.
According to reports, Khalid and Ashfaq were riding a motorcycle when they were intercepted by two persons at Fida Husain Road in Baghdadi.
TPO Lyari Swaleh Mohammad said as they were fleeing on motorcycle, Ashfaq raised an alarm, on which he was shot at by bandits.
Khalid, who was a police official and was in plain-clothes, returned the fire.
Meanwhile, the bandits left the motorcycle and tried to escape while opening fire.
In the cross-fire, three persons identified as Zubaida, Alana and Mohammad Ali received bullet wounds.
Khalid chased one of the bandit who was trying to escape in a parked Rickshaw and opened fire at him.
The TPO said the dead bandit remained unidentified while people managed to got hold of the other bandit who was identified as Ayaz and was later handed to the police.
All the injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital where the unknown bandit died while the other four injured were admitted for treatment.
TPO said Ashfaq was in a serious condition and was being operated at the CHK.
Police recovered three pistols from the possession of the two suspects, TPO added.
