KARACHI, Oct 22: A marvellous spell of spin bowling by right-arm leg-spinner Ghayas Ather, who bagged seven wickets for 17 runs, helped St. Michael’s Convent School register a 75-run victory over Foundation Public School in the Rev. Father Robert D’Silva Golden Jubilee Invitation Inter-School cricket tournament played on Tuesday at the National Bank of Pakistan ground.

Batting first, St. Michael’s were dismissed for 159 runs in their 25 allotted overs with Rafay Safdar (42) and Ghayas Ather (21 n.o.) among the runs. Noor Ali was the pick of the Foundation Public School attack, claiming four wickets for 27 runs in his five over spell. Foundation Public School in reply could not face the deadly spin of Ghayas and were bundled out for 84 runs.

In another match played in the afternoon session, Karachi Grammar School booked their berth in the semi-finals by beating City School by 63 runs.

Having first use of the wicket, Karachi Grammar School scored 164 for seven in their allotted 25 overs through Omayr Shaikh (47), Nadir Daudi (42) and Ali Abbas 34 not out. Usmanul Haq bagged three of the seven wickets that fell for 33 runs.

City School in reply could only muster up 101 for nine wickets in their allotted overs, with Umair Farooqi (30), and Behram Khan (21) among the runs.

Asad Matcheswala was once again the hero of the Grammar School attack picking up three wickets for 18 runs. He was ably supported by Wasley Anjum three for 15 and paceman Nadir Daudi two for 14.
